What is culture?

What is culture?

Is it a list of values on a wall? A mission statement on a website? Corporate jargon in a company deck?

We think culture is something much deeper. It’s the behaviors you encourage. It’s the standards you reinforce. It’s what people do when something is difficult.

This weekend, a group from Mavik completed a triathlon together. For all but one, this was their first triathlon. Some had never swum before. Most never considered themselves endurance athletes.

Months ago, many of them would have told you it wasn’t something they could or would want to do. Yet they showed up. They trained. They stayed consistent. And they crossed the finish line.

The triathlon was not just about swimming, biking, or running. It was about proving to yourself that you’re capable of much more than you think.

At Mavik, we believe growth happens when people are willing to step outside their comfort zones.

Whether it’s taking on a new responsibility, leading an important initiative, speaking up with a different point of view, sitting through a meditation, or training for a race you never thought you could complete, the principle is the same: Growth lives on the other side of discomfort.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who participated in the triathlon and, more importantly, demonstrated a willingness to embrace discomfort, challenge their own limits, and discover they were capable of more than they thought possible.

That’s what growth looks like. And that’s the kind of culture we’re building.
